The Mersal Ecosystem: Add-ons, Apps and the API

Mersal isn't one closed platform — around it sits an ecosystem of add-ons and apps that connect it to the tools you already use. This article is a quick tour of each piece and when to use it.

In-platform add-ons

Mersal Campaign

The multi-channel campaign add-on: design one campaign and send it over WhatsApp, SMS and email from a single dashboard, with scheduling, audience segments and reports that compare channel performance on the same message.

Mersal Notifications

Event-driven automatic alerts: order confirmation, shipping, payment reminders. The difference from a campaign is that these go to one customer at the moment an event happens, not to a list at a scheduled time. They're the most-opened messages you'll send, because the customer is expecting them.

WordPress plugins

  • Mersal OTP: code-based login and registration over WhatsApp, SMS or email, with WooCommerce support.
  • Mersal Assistant: an AI assistant that answers your site's visitors from your content and takes orders.

The Chrome extension

The Mersal Maps extension extracts business data from Google Maps as you browse and sends it straight to the review queue in your account.

Mobile apps

  • Mersal Authenticator: a two-factor app with offline TOTP codes, plus one-tap sign-in approval. It works with mersal.it and with WordPress sites running Mersal OTP.
  • The SMS bridge app: turns an Android phone with your SIM into an SMS gateway.

The developer API

If you run your own system, the API gives you SMS, WhatsApp and email sending through unified endpoints, with gateway preference selection and an API key tied to your account. Documentation lives at /api/document.

Webhooks

The reverse direction matters just as much: register a webhook endpoint and receive auth, delivery and reply events, with a ping test and secret rotation. That lets you update your own system the moment a message is delivered or a customer replies.

Which piece should you start with?

The order that reaches a result fastest, by business type:

  • Online store: start with Mersal Notifications. Order and shipping alerts cut "where is my order?" enquiries within the first week.
  • Services site: start with Mersal Assistant. Most of your visitors ask the same five questions before getting in touch.
  • A business already running on WhatsApp: start with WhatsApp Manager. Organising conversations comes before any automation.
  • B2B: start with the lead generation tools — your problem is finding customers, not messaging them.

Whichever you begin with: one piece at a time. Installing four tools in a week ends with none of them configured properly.

How the pieces fit together

A typical online store scenario:

  1. The customer signs in with Mersal OTP — the number is verified from the first moment.
  2. Mersal Assistant answers pre-purchase questions and can take the order.
  3. Mersal Notifications sends order confirmation and shipping updates automatically.
  4. Their later replies land in WhatsApp Manager for the team to handle.
  5. Mersal Campaign targets them later with an offer based on their last purchase.

Each piece is useful on its own, but the real value appears when the loop closes: the number they signed in with is the same number you message, and the same conversation you follow.

Frequently asked questions

Does each add-on need its own subscription? Add-ons are enabled on your Mersal account, and messages draw on one shared balance.

Can I use the API alongside the add-ons? Yes, same account and same balance — the add-ons run on the same infrastructure.

Do the plugins update themselves? The WordPress plugins update automatically from the Mersal server.
